Rules for Impressing:
1.
You must have somewhere to put your dragon's image and stats online.
A webpage is best, though
other methods will be considered. It cannot be somewhere that someone must sign
up to view, such as neopets. A separate post on a forum may be accepted,
provided the forum is viewable by guests. This is a good
example of a webpage (or you can look at any of my wingriders); this is a suitable forum post. If you have an idea for
another paging method, email me first before you send in a form so I can okay
it.
2. There must be a candidate on the
page, with either a story or a stat sheet. Stories are appreciated but not required at
Sedona. The dragons are premade when the clutch is put up, and they are paired
to candidates based primarily on personality and character, as well as writer,
preferences. A gold hatchling will go to a submitted candidate over an NPC when
possible, and a candidate with a story over a stat sheet, personality and
preferences allowing. Sport dragons also have a slight bias towards submitted
candidates, but otherwise, I make no distinction.
3. As far as pets go, anything that is found
naturally on Pern is acceptable. Fire lizards will no
doubt be the most common, but Sedona Weyr has dogs, cats, and horses available
as well. Horses are discouraged after Impression, though, as they are often
nervous around dragons, and dogs and cats are more service animals than pets.
There are two exceptions to this rule; winged wolves of Pernese or Alskyrian
heritage are found on Pern at this time, but they are extremely rare and largely
in hiding. The other exception is rukels; several of Sedona's riders
have rukels, but they mostly either hide from strangers or spend most of their
time around Darkling Dawn and only visit their friends on Pern
occasionally. Assuming candidates' rukels do the same, they are allowed. There is no upper limit on
pets, though I ask that you keep it reasonable; hatchlings and weyrlings are
very time-intensive, after all.
4. No
reservations, period.
5. Candidates
will Impress once accepted.
It may not be immediately, though.
There is a space on the form to say whether you prefer "best fit"
or "next clutch". My default tends to be to Impress candidates from
the first clutch possible rather than leaving them standing, but let me know if you prefer
a specific type of dragon, no matter how long it takes.
6. Candidates do not
have to be human;
however, as not everyone is aware of alternate worlds and the like, they must be
able to pass as human.
If they are not from Pern, please at least make a mention of how they got there;
otherwise, it can be assumed they were properly searched and brought to the Weyr
or a weyrbrat and entitled to stand.
7.
Sport dragons may hatch, but they will of course be rare, and only if the
parents' ancestery on both sides suggests it.
This rule may be bent slightly if one parent is entirely non-Pernese, though I
would prefer those chasers and fliers to be rare. That said, if the genetics are
there and the clutch is large enough, it's entirely possible there'll be more
than one sport in a clutch. They tend to come in waves. Gold eggs will be
announced beforehand, sport eggs will not. Sport colors will be relatively
plain: solid colors such as white, black, or red; two-toned dragons with wing
membranes separate colors than their body, or speckled with a different color;
and Ryslen nights, lights, and twilights, which fade to black, white, or silver
near the tail.
8. Dragons probably won't be
taken back or killed off if they're never paged, but please make sure they're
put up.
9. Sedona Weyr follows the
Dragonchoice theory of
Impression
. The dragons are paired mostly based on three
things: personality, character preference, and writer preference. Writer
preference is the only absolute; if you say you absolutely do not want a
particular color or trait, I will do my best to abide by that. The characters'
preferences are also taken into account, and from there, the dragons pair
up with the candidate they are most likely to find attractive, based on
personality. Both of the latter attributes can be shifted or ignored to one
degree or another for various reasons. Narrowing down your preferences on the
form will only help you get what you want. If it's "queen or nothing at all,"
fine. Although if you say, for example, your candidate has to have a
queen and you want her to Impress from the very next clutch, well, then
you're likely to be disappointed.
Another point, by the way, is that
per the theory linked above, dragons do not discriminate based on sexuality, but
do Impress based on gender. There's always the possibility of individual dragons bucking
the trend, but in general, male dragons bond boys when they
can, and females, girls, unless there's a lack of suitable and accepting candidates of
the preferred gender. It's equally as possible for a bronze or gold to cross-Impress
as a green or blue.
10. The clutches have a set deadline. I may or may not write Hatching stories, depends on whether
or not I feel like it (I always have in the past, but hey, you never know). You
may send in as many candidates as you like, but no more than three
candidates from
one person will Impress in a single clutch. They can be three girls, three guys, or whatever. This
number may change in the case of very small (<5) or very large (>18) clutches. Any leftover dragons
will bond to NPCs and be used as wing-fodder, though usually I will pick
two or three to keep and let any other NPCs be claimed on the Nexus
forum.
11. Announcements such as
Hatchings and Flights will be announced on the main page, as well as on the
Nexus forum . If you
request it, I will try to send you an email when something important happens,
but I'm only human, and I do forget. You might want to make a habit of checking
the main page regularly if you're not part of the Nexus.
12. Do not change the images in any way or use them
for any purpose they are not intended for, especially stealing them and claiming
them as your own. At the very least, you will be banned from ever
adopting again.
13. Also, weyrlings are
required to stay at Sedona until they graduate from weyrling training.
After that, they may request to go somewhere else, though the Weyrleaders prefer
that they join the wings. (I, however, am not so picky, and I won't make you
keep them here.) ICly, timing is often used
to train weyrlings faster in these desperate times. OOCly, they're considered adults as
soon as the clutch hatches and are free to chase or rise at other Dragonries, but
I ask that if they're mating at Sedona to
wait until a clutch or
two has hatched. (Or, if you care to be more exact, you can
keep track of the Sedona timeline I have set up on the front
page.)
Green Hadeth was caught by Blue Faant'Sayu, and she has laid a clutch of 6 eggs. While the father is not entirely Pernese, his Geperna blood is not expected to pass on very strongly. The Deadline is set for April 12.
